Jellyfish at Fort Funston

I took our dog, Maggie Moo, out to Fort Funston today. Our visit was cut a bit short because the beach was covered with (dead) jellyfish. They were up and down the entire beach. In 4 years of going out there, I don't remember ever seeing this before. It's not uncommon to see one or two, but there must have been thousands out there today.

We ended up leaving because Maggie kept trying to eat them. Even if she hadn't, I was a little worried about letting her go in the water. I don't know if all jellyfish sting, but I do know that some are extremely poisonous. I thought better safe than sorry.

Unfortunately, the only camera I had with me was my iPhone. As lame as that camera is, I thought these came out kind of nice. I may go back tomorrow with a better camera, if I get a chance. I have some other photographing to do in the city tomorrow.

Snake Like #2

Seaweed at Fort Funston, California

A couple of weeks ago I participated in a weekly photo assignment, with a topic of, "Snake Like" (link). This was an alternate image I shot for that project. It's seaweed down on Fort Funston Beach.

Fort Funston Fog

This afternoon it was a bit warm here in our loft, so I took Maggie Moo (our dog) out to Fort Funston for a little break, and to burn off some energy. From home, it looked like it was clear as a bell out there, but it wasn't. At times I couldn't even see the water.

This wasn't the type of weather I was hoping for when I left the house, but I still really like how this shot came out.

Click the image to get the larger view. You can kind of make out 2 people and a dog down on the beach.

Camera-Shy Dog

Camera Shy Dog

Location: San Francisco, CA - Fort Funston

I took Maggie Moo out to Fort Funston yesterday to get a little exercise. Like usual, she was pretty wet and filthy when we were done. When we got back to the parking lot I tried to take her picture before getting into the car, and she just wouldn't cooperate. It's strange, she's more than happy to look you straight in the eye at any other time, but if you have a camera in your hand, forget it. It's as if she knows what you're doing, and she doesn't like it.

Shooting in rapid-fire mode, I probably shot 50-60 photos. I only managed to get one of her actually looking at me.

Fort Funston Sewer Tunnel

Fort Funston Sewer Tunnel

Location: San Francisco, CA - Fort Funston

Fort Funston is one of our local beaches here in San Francisco. On the beach there is on old concrete building, that I believe was for the sewer system. You're not supposed to be able to get into it, but over the years the bars and hatches have been bent open or removed. From the outside it doesn't look too bad, but if you climb inside, it's a pretty spooky place.
