Merkley??? at 111 Minna
Location: San Francisco, CA - 111 Minna
Last night I wrote that I wasn't sure how much time I was going to have in the near future to get out and shoot. Ironically, within a couple hours of writing that I was at an event, with camera in hand.
The event was a photo-exhibition and book release party, at 111 Minna, for one of my favorite artists who goes by the name, Merkley???
I refer to Merkley??? as an artist, and not a photographer, as he has made it quite clear that he is NOT a photographer (follow the link, it's a great read).
I only managed to get one shot of Merkley??? (above), as he walked by a wall of his work. After that he tended to hang out in the shadows.
I'm a big fan of Merkley???'s photographic work, which mostly involves portraits and nudes, shot in lavish surroundings and processed in an overly saturated manner. One word comes to mind when thinking of ways to describe Merkley???'s photographs... Ultrasuede. I say that with all do respect.
Merkley???'s show and book is a collection of 111 nudes on couches. The show will be running at 111 Minna for the rest of January, or you can see many of the images on his Flickr set. You can buy the book here. I personally would love to have a copy, but $111 is a little out of my budget.
I highly recommend checking out Merkley???'s photos. You can see them on his blog or Flickr site. If you go to his Flickr site, make sure you turn off "Safe Search" or most of his images won't show up. You can also read more about Merkley???'s approach to photography and how he got into doing nudes in this interview submitted to JPG magazine back in May of 2007.
I have a couple more images from the show that I'll be posting.

Hey!
Any sign of that ship yet?
I paid for a copy of 111 Nudes quite a while ago.
Please let me know when to expect it.
Also, I am in SF, so when it gets in, I can drop by and pick it up in person to save you the effort of shipping it.
Thanks Tristan
Hi Tristan, You're commenting on the wrong site. I'm a big fan of Merkleys work, but I'm not affiliated with him at all. I don't have the books.
Great photos of what I'm sure must have been an interesting event. I love the one of Merkley.
