A couple of months ago I joined The San Francisco Photography Meetup Group. Today we met over at Golden Gate Park for a Portraiture Round Table Discussion & Potluck. It was a lot of fun, and I learned quite a bit too.

Fellow member, Vonn, and I took turns doing extreme close-ups of each other. I like the way this one came out, but I can't quite decide if I prefer a little harder light (above) or softer light (below).

Fort Funston Fog

Fort Funston Fog

Location: Fort Funston, CA

This afternoon it was a bit warm here in our loft, so I took Maggie Moo (our dog) out to Fort Funston for a little break, and to burn off some energy. From home, it looked like it was clear as a bell out there, but it wasn't. At times I couldn't even see the water.

This wasn't the type of weather I was hoping for when I left the house, but I still really like how this shot came out.

Click the image to get the larger view. You can kind of make out 2 people and a dog down on the beach.

This made my day

In early June I submitting some images to possibly be included in an exhibit at City Hall, here in San Francisco. I didn't make it into the show. If you're a regular reader of this blog you may recall I posted my rejection letter a couple of weeks ago... it was my first.

Today, I received a really nice email about the images I submitted that made me feel really good...

"Paul,

Greetings.

Finally getting around to organizing things from the Our World show. Wanted to send along a thank you for submitting, and a note that it was a challenge to select the work for the exhibition- City Hall is a BIG building, but the gallery space is quite small.

Just wanted to say that even though the whole group didn't select the work, that I really enjoyed your spontaneous and connected images- and appreciated their joyfulness and quirky relation to the street.

Keep makin' the stuff, and always interested to see more.

Best,

Thom

Thanks for taking the time to email me, Thom. It made me feel really good knowing you liked my images.

If anyone is interested in checking out the show, it's in City Hall, and will run from July 13th to September 21st. You can find more details on the PhotoAlliance website.

Blurry Man

Blurry Man

Location: San Francisco, CA

Last night we were walking around downtown and we walked by this guy. The sidewalks were pretty busy, so I only had a quick second to shoot him, from the hip, while there was a gap in the crowd. I was using a 50mm lens (80mm equivalent), with an aperture of f/1.8, so I had virtually no depth of field. But, even though he came out pretty blurry, there's something about the image I really like.
